This morning I want to tell you about what’s happening tomorrow night at FBC, Kentwood.  There will be a supper (Donations only) and an auction of donated items.  We had a great meal and lots of fun last year.  Most importantly, we raised money to help support our summer trips/camps for our children and youth.  The money raised tomorrow night will help our youth and children attend without having to pay so much money out of pocket.  The summer trips/camps are so important in the lives of our young people.  Please plan to come and support them.

Mrs. Carol Jean Gill is home!  Thank God for all He has brought this family though in the last almost three months.  Thank God for her family that stuck with her daily during this time.  Continue to pray for her improvement.

If you haven’t made plans to attend the brunch in the morning, please consider doing do.  We will have great Christian fellowship.  The food will be delicious.  I hope to see you at 10 A.M.  One last reminder, you can come even if you did not participate in the recent Beth Moore study.

Coy Dykes Jr.

Coy Dykes Jr. was born on June 18, 1935 and entered into Eternal Rest on April 17, 2012 at the age of 76 years old and a native of Washington Parish.
Visitationto be held at Our Father’s House Baptist Church on April 20, 2012 from 6P.M.  – 10:00 P.M., & Saturday April 21st from 10AM. – Religious services at 2:00 P.M.
Bro. Willie Westmoreland & Bro. Larry Blades officiating, Interment was in the Tangipahoa Cemetery.
Mr. Coy is survived by his wife Pearl Travis Dykes, Three Daughters: Lila Jean (& David) Watson of Wilmer, Ruthie Dykes of Kentwood, Faye (& Leroy) Carney of Kentwood.  Four Sons – Eugene Travis & Phillip Dykes Both of Kentwood, Edward Dykes of Wilmer, La., Jacky  Dykes (& Vicky Wall) of Osyka, Ms., Jerry (& Kathy) Dykes of Mt. Hermon, La. & one step-son Norman W. Travis of Roseland, La.
Ten Grand Children, Thirteen Great-Grand-Children and three Great Great Grand-Children, and many other adopted Grand-children.Four Sisters – Jessie Ray (& Janson) Kling of Baton Rouge, Janice (& Ray) Jarreau of Erinville, La., Evelyn McCallister of Denham Springs, and Irene (& Carl) Smith of Magnolia, Ms.,  Many Nieces, Nephews and other family Members.
Mr. Coy is preceded in death by four sons, William Henry Dykes, Carl Ray Dykes, Tommy Lane Dykes and Jimmy Wayne Dykes Sr. One Grandson – Wayne Travis, Parents Coy Dykes Sr. & Emma Dykes. Jimmy Schwartz called yesterday evening when he got home to say he wouldn’t be able to come to last night’s meeting.  His return to Kentwood was delayed yesterday so he could get another unit of blood.  Continue your prayers for Jimmy and his family.

The Third Thursday meeting last night was good.  Christian fellowship is the best!  Mark your calendar for next month.

Please keep the Dykes family in your prayers.

Ladies, plan to attend the brunch Saturday morning at 10:00.  We will be celebrating the completion of James: Mercy Triumphs.  If you didn’t work through the study with us, come on anyway for the Christian fellowship.  If you need directions or other information, please feel free to call me.

The North American Mission Offering (named for missionary Annnie Armstrong) is being received in church across the Southern Baptist Convention.  There has always been a need for mission work here and continues to be that way.  Read this Baptist Press story about one church in the Appalachian area and determine to help with your prayers, your love offering, and/or your muscles.

Jimmy Schwartz is scheduled to get a bone marrow test and be released today.

Jamie Schwartz will be speaking in church Sunday morning.  He is an American hero!

Continue to pray for Mr. Raymond Anthony as he takes his treatments each week.

Pray for Renee Deck as she waits a couple weeks until her back surgery can be done.

Continue to pray for Marsha Bankston as she and Larry explore her treatment options.

Edward A. Slaven, Sr.
(May 6, 1928 – April 17, 2012)

A resident of Franklinton, he died at 11:20 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at Riverside Medical Center in Franklinton. He was born May 6, 1928 in Mt. Hermon and was 83 years of age. He is survived by his 2 daughters, Margie Forbes, Kirksville, MO and Betty Ann Chappell, Kansas City, MO; 4 sons, Cleve Edward Slaven, Mt. Hermon, Edward Arthur Slaven, Jr., Amite, Billy M. Slaven, Sr., Newberry, SC and Willis R. Slaven, Amite; 2 brothers, Bobby Slaven, Chatawa, MS and Billy Slaven, Amite; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Cleve and Carrie Slaven; daughter, Cathy Ables; 5 brothers and 3 sisters; 2 granddaughters; 1 great-grandson. Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Kentwood, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., Thursday, and from 8 a.m. until religious services at 10 a.m., Friday, April 20, 2012. Services conducted by Rev. Bob Simpson. Please add my brother Max (Brent) to the prayerlink. He lives in Ohio and has been diagnosed with Kidney cancer. I’m not sure if it is the same type my brother Joe died with about 2 years ago or not. He is scheduled for surgery May 4th if his cardiiologist gives the ok. He also has problems with his heart.

Patsy Benefield has been moved to Landmark Nursing Home in Hammond.

The Third Thursday meeting at the cabin will be tomorrow night at 6:30.  We look forward to seeing many of you.  If you would like more information, please contact me.

Saturday, there will be a Beth Moore Brunch to celebrate the conclusion of “James: Mercy Triumphs”.  If you were a member of the group, have complete previous Beth Moore studies, or are interested in doing one in the future, please join us at 10:00 A.M. at the cabin.  Contact me for more information.  (Also, if you just want to attend the brunch, come one.  The more, the merrier!)

Sunday evening, there will be a supper and auction at the church which will be a fund-raiser for the youth and children’s summer camps.  The food was great last year!  The auction was much more than a fund-raiser.  It was FUN!  Items auctioned last year were jewelry, coupons for a car wash, yard decorations, wall decorations, etc.  It was a great evening of being with Christian friends and supporting our youth and children.  I think it will begin at 6 P.M.  David Alford will be the auctioneer again.  Enough said!

Tuesday Updates

Marty (Simpson) is home and doing good. They numbed his hand so they would not have to put him to sleep. This is much better and getting better will be faster.

Jadon Pailet is continuing to improve – using sidewalk chalk with his right hand, talking more and more, not having seizures, etc.  God can really use a little guy to touch many hearts.  Jadon is a walking, talking, playing, loving,… miracle!

 

Caroline Cutrer is feeling energetic and looking good.  She will not be taking one of her regular treatment for a while.  Other treatments will continue as usual.  Thank God for this break and for carrying Caroline and her family though these past months.

 

 

Carson Ronnie Bridges, Sr.

Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home

Carson Ronnie Bridges, Sr., 70, died April 16, 2012 at his residence in Magnolia.  He was born January 1, 1942 in Independence, LA.  He was the son of Milton A. and Helen Singleton Bridges.  He was a retired offshore derrick worker and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.  He was a graduate of Kentwood High School.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Ron Young; a great-grandson, Jacob Whitehead; a brother, William “Sonny” Bridges and a sister, Ann Gale Shavers.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Delilah Sharkey Bridges of Magnolia;  two daughters and a son-in-law, Rhonda and Rex Conerly of Tylertown and Roslyn Bridges of Huntsville, AL; one son, C. Ronnie Bridges, Jr. of Walker, LA; one sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Doyle Knight of Albany, LA; three grandchildren, James L. Young, Carla Y. Whitehead and husband, Rorey and William Carson Bridges; four great-grandchildren, Jessica Young, Alyssa Young, Kelsey Phelps and Nathan Whitehead and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation is Thursday at Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb from 12noon until services at 2PM with Rev. Troy Bankston officiating.  Burial will be in Tangipahoa cemetery in Tangipahoa, LA.

Pallbearers will be James Alexander, James Young, Clarence Russell, Bryant Thompson, Rorey Whitehead and Wilvie Cox.  Honorary pallbearers will be Carlton Rushing, Rex Conerly, Morris Jay Bridges and Bubba Rimes.

Memorials may be sent to Hospice Compassus, 140 North 5th Street, McComb, MS 39648.
