Jadon is in surgery now. They will update every hour. I’ll do my best to keep you all posted. Thank you so much for all the prayers and support. My newsfeed is so full of people praying for Jadon that I can’t keep up with it. I appreciate all the prayers. We are in survival mode right now. God is carrying us through this. Jadon is the strongest person I know.

My foot is healing but the blood clot recovery may be a long process. Our return to the field will be delayed indefinitely. So thankful we follow a God who’s never surprised.

Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond

Mr. Monroe Easley, 77, of Holden, Louisiana, passed away Monday, January 9, 2012, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center. He was born October 4, 1934, in Hammond.

Mr. Easley was a retired principal over the Holden School.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce DeVane Easley; son & daughter-in-law, Brian Fleet Easley and wife Lynda; granddaughter, Sarah Easley; brother, Bill Jim Easley and sister, Irene Lascaro.

He is preceded in death by his son, Edwin Easley; parents, Monroe Jeff and Annie Laurie Hauser Easley; 5 brothers, Jeff, Fleet, Marvin, and Kelly Easley; sister, Elaine Russell.

Visitation will be held at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm and on Thursday after 8:00 am.

Services will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel.

Interment will follow in the Mulberry Street Cemetery in Amite, Louisiana.

Tuesday Addition

Dr. Derry Magee is doing well, even helping provide channel numbers, driving direction, etc. as he listens to conversations around him.  Yesterday, a move was made to a rehab to work to improve his swallowing so he can again eat solid food.  The goal is to get him home.

Jadon’s Surgery

Jadon’s Story: Results (of pre-surgery conference with the doctor)

Well the results are not really what we wanted but I think I can write this blog. Ok so my seizures are originating in my motor cortex as well as all over the left side of my brain. They came in and told us that the motor cortex was involved and wanted our opinion before they went into conference. They originally told us they would come back with multiple surgery options. Well they only gave us one option. If we want these seizures to stop I will need a complete hemispherectomy which includes removal of my motor cortex. We were trying to leave the motor cortex alone. So what does this mean? Well it means that I will have permanent motor delays on the right side of my body. I will not have much fine motor skills with my right hand. I will have gross motor skills but no fine motor. The doctors are not real concerned about this because I already do not have much fine motor skills with my right hand. Basically the seizures have already damaged my motor cortex which explains why I already have right sided weakness. He said I will learn to walk, run, and play as any other kid would. You know I believe things happen for a reason and if any of you knew my great grandpa you remember he lost one of his arms in a car accident. This was a reminder today that loss of some function in my right arm is better than all these seizures. The other news that wasn’t so great was that there is a small area of malformation on my right side. We have known this, this is nothing new. So why is it so important now. Well because of this they do not know if I will be totally seizure free after my surgery. I may still have 2-3 seizures a week. We do know that my EEG from Boston did show 3 possible right sided seizures during my last EEG study. With that said, I am currently having 1400 visible left sided seizures a week. That does not count the constant spiking that is going on in my brain. The EEG that is being done right now has been active since I got out of surgery Thursday. What that means is my poor little brain is never resting. Again its so bad its amazing that I’m doing so well now. The doctors said that by removing my left hemisphere my outlook in life is much better even if I do have a few seizures a week. You see if we don’t do it my seizures are going to continue to get worse and worse. We are looking at a life in and out of the hospital and my life expectancy goes way down. So no they didn’t give us more than 1 option but I believe its because God had already made the decision for us. He knew we wouldn’t be able to make it so He made it for us. It’s like the doctor told us today. We either do nothing or we give him his 1 chance of a better life. Please pray for me tomorrow. I know you all will but this is so hard on me and my family. My surgery will begin around 8:30(7:30) your time tomorrow. We are trusting in God, that’s all we can do. We are praying that I’m having my last seizures today and that we will never see another seizure again. God be with us!!!

Jadon’s Story: Big decisions tomorrow (Written last night)

Not much time but I have a prayer request. Tomorrow is the day that we will be given the surgery options. Please pray for the doctors as they meet in the morning. They will discuss my case at 10:30. 9:30 our time. We will not know anything until around 1:30,12:30 your time. Please pray that they can get all of these seizures without having to take out my motor cortex. Thanks for praying. I believe we are all fixing to witness a miracle. Just so you know. I had a great day today. I even smiled and laughed for my daddy. I’ll update you tomorrow when we know the plan. Love ya, Jadon

Virginia MeKenzie said her granddaughter, Chloe Neyland, is doing well.  She’s recovered from her surgery and is beginning to grow.  She’ll soon be celebrating her first birthday.  Let’s pray her second year is easier than her first one.
Let’s continue to pray for Caroline Cutrer and her family.  The last few months have certainly changed life for the family.  Many prayers are continuing for Caroline.
Thought for the Day: Looking at things differently
A teenage boy lost a contact lens while playing basketball in his driveway. After a fruitless search, he told his mother the lens was no where to be found. Undaunted, she went outside and in a few minutes returned with the eyepiece in her hand.

“How did you manage to find it, Mom?” the teenager asked.

“We weren’t looking for the same thing,” she replied. “You were looking for a small piece of plastic. I was looking for $150.”

It is so true that our passion and persistence in doing something will be largely determined by its value in our eyes. For example, evangelism will never be a top priority as long as you see your next-door neighbor as simply a middle-aged guy with a pot belly. When you see him as an valuable soul whose eternal destiny will be determined by his relationship with God, suddenly things are different.

If you see your involvement at church as simply cleaning out a baptistry or corralling a herd of 4-year-olds for an hour, you will quickly lose heart. When you see your involvement as an essential element in the building up of the kingdom of God, you will not “grow weary while doing good” (Gal. 6:9).

“Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.” (Col. 3:2)

Looking at earthly things from a heavenly perspective will change the value of things in our mind. And that, in turn, will change how diligently we seek to do the things of God.

Frank (Smith) has a bad case of the shingles. I know that they have to run their course but he also has asthma and it seems to be flaring up with this. He is really not doing good with this and would just like to add him to the prayer list if possible. Would appreciate all the prayers we can get right now so he may get some relief. Boyd Hatchel is feeling better this morning – less pain, no nausea, etc.  He will be going back to Ochsner tomorrow.  Keep praying.

I’m home from the hospital. Three blood clots confirmed in left leg. Follow-up consultations on Monday. So thankful for great medical care and SUPER insurance. As Saul said in 1 Samuel 23:21, “The LORD bless you for your concern for me.” Thank you for praying.

Thought for the Day: Showers of blessings

The following letters supposedly were taken from an actual incident between a London hotel and one of its guests. In truth, this was composed by comedian Shelly Berman. It is rather long, but it is very funny and if you haven’t seen it before, you’ll love it.

Dear Maid,
Please do not leave any more of those little bars of soap in my bathroom since I have brought my own bath-sized Dial. Please remove the six unopened little bars from the shelf under the medicine chest and another three in the shower soap dish. They are in my way.

This leaves only the 3 bars I left today which my instructions from the management is to leave 3 soaps daily. I hope this is satisfactory.

3 little Camays to the shelf under my medicine cabinet. I am going to be here in the hotel for two weeks and have brought my own bath-size Dial so I won’t need those 6 little Camays which are on the shelf. They are in my way when shaving, brushing teeth, etc. Please remove them.

I didn’t remove the 3 complimentary soaps which are always placed inside the medicine cabinet for all new check-ins and which you did not object to when you checked in last Monday. Please let me know if I can of further assistance.

The new maid you assigned me must have thought I was a new check-in today, since she left another 3 bars of hotel soap in my medicine cabinet along with her regular delivery of 3 bars on the bath-room shelf. In just 5 days here I have accumulated 24 little bars of soap. Why are you doing this to me?

You complained of too much soap in your room so I had them removed. Then you complained to Mr. Kensedder that all your soap was missing so I personally returned them. The 24 Camays which had been taken and the 3 Camays you are supposed to receive daily. I don’t know anything about the 4 Cashmere Bouquets. Obviously your maid, Kathy, did not know I had returned your soaps so she also brought 24 Camays plus the 3 daily Camays. I don’t know where you got the idea this hotel issues bath-size Dial. I was able to locate some bath-size Ivory which I left in your room.

Just a short note to bring you up-to-date on my latest soap inventory. As of today I possess:
– On the shelf under medicine cabinet – 18 Camay in 4 stacks of 4 and 1 stack of 2.
– On the Kleenex dispenser – 11 Camay in 2 stacks of 4 and 1 stack of 3.
– On the bedroom dresser – 1 stack of 3 Cashmere Bouquet.
– 1 stack of 4 hotel-size Ivory, and 8 Camay in 2 stacks of 4.
– Inside the medicine cabinet – 14 Camay in 3 stacks of 4 and 1 stack of 2.
– In the shower soap dish – 6 Camay, very moist.
– On the northeast corner of tub – 1 Cashmere Bouquet, slightly used.
– On the northwest corner of tub – 6 Camays in 2 stacks of 3.
Please ask Kathy when she services my room to make sure the stacks are neatly piled and dusted. Also, please advise her that stacks of more than 4 have a tendency to tip. May I suggest that my bedroom window sill is not in use and will make an excellent spot for future soap deliveries. One more item, I have purchased another bar of bath-sized Dial which I am keeping in the hotel vault in order to avoid further misunderstandings.

It dawned on me that God is like those maids! Every day he sends us blessing after blessing. Whether we ask for them or not, whether we deserve them or not (“he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good”), whether we acknowledge them or not, we are absolutely flooded with blessings from a good and gracious God.

“Bless the LORD, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name!
