Thursday

Our lives gradually becoming brighter and more beautiful

as God enters our lives

and we become like him.

~2 Corinthians 3:18b (Msg)~

(This verse seems so appropriate to the VBS lesson we had yesterday.)

From Chris Wales

Kirk Wales is departing for seven to eight month deployment to Afghanistan June 11. Please remember him in your prayers as well as the other men and women in the military serving and defending our country.

I am so proud of Kirk and his family.  They know the importance of God, country, and family.  Join me in praying for him and his family.

Mrs. Thomas Carter that many of your will remember from her long service at FGB in Kentwood is still putting up a battle with the cancer that has been working in her body for years.  Please pray for her and for her family in the Kedron area west of Amite.

Read the latest updates on Macy Gueldner and pray for her, her family, and the medical staff caring for her.

Pray for all the children who will be attending day four of VBS today.  Thank God for the many workers in the different Vacations Bible Schools who love God, love children, and know the importance of VBS in the lives of little children.

Pray for Ricky and Sherry Simpson and other family members as they leave today for Brandon’s wedding this weekend.

Pray for Alisha Estay, Landon’s wife, as she is admitted to the hospital in Houston due to appendicitis.  Today is their 4th anniversary!  Pray for Landon as he juggles work, home, two little ones, and a sick wife.

Today’s Prayer from the IMB

Pray for the Donnie Simpson family as they lay another family member to rest.

Have a blessed day!

Wednesday

I am sure that God who began the good work within you

will keep right on helping you grow in his grace

until his task within you is finally finished

on that day when Jesus Christ returns.

~Philippians 1:6 (LB)~

Mary Ann Cutrer asks you to pray for her teenage granddaughter.

Please add Kaleigh Powers to the prayer link. She has 3 masses in her throat and she will have surgery sometimes this Thursday. The doctor does not know what has caused the masses, but he said that they needed to come out. Please pray for her and her family. (Also her Meme who is very worried about her.)
Yours in Christ,
Mary Ann Cutrer

CaringBridge – http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/macygueldner

Please read the journal so you will know how to pray for the current needs.

Pam Kliesch would appreciate prayers for her son, Whit, who has been sick while in the military.  It’s not easy for a mother when a child is sick and so far away.

Please continue to pray for Jerry Glass as he learns more about what will be done for him.  Surgery is not an option.

There will be a reception to honor Jerry and Bobbye Rankin during the Southern Baptist Convention in Florida next.   They are retiring after 40 years of service.  I wish I could be there, but know there are many others who will be there.  May God bless their retirement and continue to use them in His service.

WEDNESDAY WINDOW ON THE WORLD
IMB
June 9, 2010

* Praise the Lord for answering your prayers and enabling a Deccani Muslim-background believer and his team to record video segments that can be broadcast on local and national cable networks in India.

* Pray that someone will be willing to “walk through the fire” to do church planting in Jharia, a city in India with raging fires underground.

* Give thanks to God for the aid provided to Aymara people in Peru following torrential rains and flooding; pray for a medical clinic that will be held in the community this month.

* Those seeking to reach American peoples ask you to pray for the believers in one town to share the Gospel boldly and for the teachings of Santeria to be exposed and uprooted.

DECCANI MUSLIMS OF INDIA (deh-KAH-nee). One Deccani Muslim-background believer and a team of others have professionally recorded video segments that clearly articulate what it means to be a Christian versus being a Muslim. They address all sorts of concerns that Deccani Muslims traditionally bring up. The funding was provided locally, as was the video editing team! Please pray that local and national cable networks will accept these videos and broadcast them on their networks so that many may hear the Gospel and clearly understand what it is–and what it is not. God has blessed this Deccani Muslim-background believer and his team. Please pray that as the Gospel goes out, many will hear and respond in faith. Praise God for answering prayers and raising up more laborers with a passion for the Deccani Muslims! God will build His church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against her! http://www.go2southasia.org/

INDIA. A cross-cultural worker writes: “On my last trip to India, I discovered a city in crisis. Jharia is a city of 100,000 people in India’s Jharkhand state. Under the ground that Jharia sits on, fires are raging. Literally, coalmines are burning underneath the city. These burning mines give off heat that you can feel aboveground in certain areas. Noxious fumes drift from these mines into homes, and black soot covers large portions of Jharia. It was surreal. My eyes saw the filth, the smoke, and the horrible situation–but my mind could not fully grasp the reality of it.” There are few Christians in Jharia, and no churches or church-planting efforts. Area pastors say that Jharia has many strongholds and that it is very difficult to share the Gospel there. “To do church planting in Jharia, someone has to walk through the fire. At this point, Indian pastors are not willing to believe that the flames will not consume them. Jude 1:23a (NASB) says, ‘save others, snatching them out of the fire.’ Approximately 100,000 people need to be snatched from fire. Pray that a church will be planted in Jharia in 2010.”

AYMARA OF PERU (eye-MAH-rah). “The month of January brought torrential rains and flooding to the Altiplano (a high plateau in the Andes Mountains) of Peru,” writes a member of the Aymara Strategy Group. “Only 15 minutes away from our house, an entire community was covered in water and more than 500 families lost everything. Thank you for praying as we participated in disaster-relief efforts in this area! ‘Food for our animals’ was the most important need that was conveyed; therefore, we rented many fields for them in order to provide for them by caring for their animals. On June 10-12, we will be doing a medical clinic in this community with the help of a volunteer team. It is our hope that we can not only continue to meet their physical needs, but also their spiritual needs. Right now, there appears to be an open door into this community because of our previous relief efforts. Pray that God will use this upcoming clinic for them to learn about Him and to draw them into a saving relationship with Him.” http://www.gradysonmission.com/

AMERICAN PEOPLES. “In the inky darkness, staying on the narrow path that led from the main road to the house church was difficult, so at first I didn’t notice the massive tree looming in the shadows,” writes a member of the Caribbean Itinerant Team. “Later, during the lively worship service, when the foreign guest was introduced and the purpose of his visit announced, I realized the seriousness of the situation. This muscular, light-skinned man was a lumberjack who had been called from far away to cut down the huge tree. The house church was packed and needed to expand their space, which meant removing the gigantic ‘spirit tree’ used frequently in rituals of Santeria, a mixture of African traditional religions and the worship of saints practiced by more than half the population of this country. Because people believe anyone who cuts down the tree will die, the visitor had been summoned. Join us in prayer that believers in this town will have the courage to share the Gospel boldly and that God’s power will expose and uproot the teachings of Santeria. Pray that people will worship the Creator and not the creation.”

Thanks for praying.  You make a difference in many lives!

Tuesday

Don’t act thoughtlessly,

but understand what the Lord wants you to do.

~Ephesians 5:17 (NLT)~

I enjoyed my first day of VBS and am looking forward to day two.  Get the children there by 8:30.  Pray for lives to be changed because of the many Vacation Bible Schools in our area.

Yesterday was a very busy day for Macy Gueldner and her family.  Be sure to read all the updates the family posted yesterday.  Thank God for taking good care of Macy and her family.

Here’s another little girl for you to begin praying for.  Avery Smith and Sami Smith are two little girls for whom I hope you will begin praying.

Jude Fowler continues to do well following his toe surgery last week.  Continue to pray for a good healing time.

TODAY’S PRAYER
IMB
JUNE 8, 2010

“Oh, give thanks to the Lord! Call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples!” (Psalm 105:1)

WORLD LEADERS. “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for Prime Minister Emil Boc of Romania (southeastern Europe, between Ukraine and Bulgaria).

EUROPEAN PEOPLES. Summer is a great time to visit Germany and Austria. The weather is typically warm, but not too hot. Outdoor markets, ice cream shops and cafes, as well as town festivals, draw large crowds and provide opportunities for engaging in conversations. Baptist representatives in these countries often plan evangelistic outreach projects during the summer months and invite volunteer teams to join them. Intercede that the hearts of Baptist representatives and volunteers alike will be in tune with the Holy Spirit and that they will be completely open to what He desires to accomplish through them. Pray that they will have many opportunities to share the Good News with Germans and Austrians and that many will place their faith in Him.

LIGHTHOUSE CITY, CHINA. Thank you for praying for people to turn from false idols to the only One who is worthy of worship. Praise the Lord that by His grace, a family of three recently came to faith and were baptized last month! lighthouse@foobox.com

Monday

All of you together are Christ’s body,

and each one of you is a separate and necessary part of it.

~1 Corinthians 12:27 (NLT)~

Lisa Piner requests prayer for Jerry Glass who is undergoing tests to  determine his problem.

She also requests prayer for her mother, Alice Faye Lee, who will see a doctor Thursday to determine if surgery is needed to heal her arm which was broken in three places.  They were told the humerus usually heals without surgery.

From Mrs. Ann Chapman

It’s me again Lord, standing in need of prayer.
You precious people have been so faithful to pray for me and my family, until it is just natural for me to call you back to the throne of God.
The doctor is finally sending me to therapy for my stiff neck. Since the removal of the halo (mid-January)
I have had very little head movement. My head continues to feel like it is in a vise and the therapist said I win the prize for the stiffest neck and shoulder muscles she has ever seen. Please pray, if it is God’s will, that I can regain my head movement.
Thank you in advance and may God bless each of you.
Ann Chapman

Don’t forget to pray for the many VBS that begin today.

TODAY’S PRAYER
IMB
JUNE 7, 2010

“If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.” (John 14:14)

WORLD LEADERS. “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for Prime Minister Hamad bin Jasim bin Jabir al-Thani of Qatar (Middle East, peninsula bordering the Persian Gulf and Saudi Arabia).

MALI. Mali is in crisis. Referring to her two-pound newborn, A. spoke a proverb: “She who gives birth to a snake attaches him to her waist.” The meaning is that whatever the physical and mental condition of her baby, a mother is always ready to do whatever it takes to help her child survive. A. lives in Mali where organizations report that nearly one in five children do not survive to see their fifth birthday. Most of these children are dying from pneumonia, diarrhea and malaria, often exacerbated by malnutrition. Thirty-two percent of children under 5 years old are underweight. Mali is a landlocked country, so most Malians are farmers. Inadequate rainfall leads to smaller harvests, which results in less food for the family. Pray that this rainy season will bring sufficient rain for a bountiful harvest. Pray that a new way of farming introduced and modeled by our missionaries will gain acceptance by farmers who are slow to change traditional ways. Give thanks for the partnering church that is beginning a project of distributing packets of high-energy food suitable for the treatment of severely malnourished children. A project being introduced by another partnering church will demonstrate a gardening technique that uses less water and compost, and a well-digging technique that can be carried out without a lot of equipment. As missionaries and volunteers minister to hurting families, pray for emotional strength as they daily confront the effects of malnutrition on children.

PORTO ALEGRE, BRAZIL (all-LEH-gree). Please pray for the church-planting efforts among the urban poor in the city of Sao Leopoldo in the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. A simple/house church was planted under IMB leadership several years ago that ended up not surviving long term. However, one of the leaders who was trained in that church-planting effort later started a new group in his home, using what he learned. That group is now thriving and has 20 people participating in weekly Bible study and church life! Please pray for A and T as they lead this group, and ask the Father to multiply their reach and to use this group both as a mother church to other simple/house churches and an example to other leaders of how to plant new churches. http://www.teamgaucho.net/

Thanks for praying today.  Prayer makes a huge difference!

Pray for all the children who will be in VBS next week and/or the coming weeks.  Pray they hear the Word and accept Jesus as their Savior.

Update on Callie Cole

Good Morning,
We hope all is well in your household today.  God is continuing to heal Ms. Callie.   We remain excited about her accomplishments and what is to come.  She is spelling away to communicate and she is trying to speak as she spells.  This new stage in her healing will cause you to work a little too.  Several require a pen and paper to write each letter as she points indicating which one.
She tells everyone she wants to go home with them.  We have told her that she can visit but the spend the nights will come later.   She is okay with our answers, but “no” doesn’t sway her to ask one more time!!
Callie thinks she is 14 years old and in the ninth grade.  She thinks we are picking at her when we tell her she is 16 and will soon be 17 later this month!!  She will ask several times a day how old am I?
She has also cried out and said “I’m confused.”  We just reassure her and let her know that the Lord is continuing to heal her and we don’t know how much she will be able to remember.  We tell her that her injury is similar to a turned over filing cabinet.  There are files thrown around everywhere in her brain and we have to pick them all up and put them back in order.  Just continue to work hard and talk to the Lord.  He will clear the confusion for you.  She often has a real quiet time after she has been really confused and aggravated.  We give her her space, but wonder if she is talking to the King.  We just pray that those mighty arms are embracing her and whispering “be still and know that I am God!”
We have quit using the feeding pump for nightly feeds and have put Callie on a four times a day feeding schedule.  This seems to be working well.  She goes to therapy everyday as an outpatient during the week.  The therapy is harder for her.  Friday she started to cry when we pulled up to the gym.  It did not last long.  She does well once she begins.  Why is it always difficult to start something?  Things really aren’t so bad once you dig in.
I can’t help but put myself where she is and liken the circumstance to growing in the Word with the truth.  As Christians we sometimes drag our feet to begin living the new truth that His word has revealed.  Why?  I don’t know.  But once we are living as He commands us, life is much easier.  I find so much freedom when I am obedient to His word.
Thanks for the continued prayer and the encouragement.  Keep it real!

Love,
Frances

INTERNATIONAL MISSIONS PRAYERLINE

IMB
Friday, June 4, 2010

“As they were going along the road,

they came to a place where there was some water.

The official said, ‘Look! Here is some water.

Why can’t I be baptized?’”

~Acts 8:36-37, CEV~

Dear Intercessors, this is Eleanor Witcher of the Office of Global Prayer Strategy, expressing joy with you in the baptism of many around the world.

T planned a baptism for a small group in South Asia of about 10. He was going to baptize them very near where they live, but they all complained that the water was “dirty.” T asked them where they would like to go. They agreed that a not-too-far-away temple would be best. T told them that if they were not afraid to go there and be baptized, then he surely was not afraid. They went there and took baptism at the temple’s lake/bathing area as many looked on. Pray that many more in South Asia will obediently follow the Master.

A worker among a Last Frontier people group writes: “I had an opportunity to meet a middle school teacher who is the mother of two children. One day she told me that her older daughter, who had studied overseas, asked for her blessing to believe our Lord. She said that she gave a nod. So I asked her whether she wanted to hear more about Him. She wasn’t interested at that time. That was a year ago. Throughout on and off contact and at our Christmas gathering, she began to open her heart. Finally she decided to follow our Father. It wasn’t only her, though. Her younger daughter also committed herself. They both got baptized on the same day. Who do you think I will turn my attention to next? Yes, you are right–her husband.”

* Please pray for this school teacher’s family so that all of them will have the same heavenly Father.

* Give thanks for bold believers who are willing to proclaim their testimonies of salvation before everyone in their community.

* Intercede for those in your congregation who are currently resisting the Lord’s call to be baptized.

THE NAME WE WEAR

When the 1960s ended, many hippies moved down the coast to Santa Cruz.  They got married and had children.  But they didn’t name their children Melissa or Brett.  People in the mountains around Santa Cruz grew accustomed to their children playing with little Time Warp or Spring Fever.  And eventually Moonbeam, Earth, Love and Precious Promise all ended up in public school.

That’s when the kindergarten teachers first met Fruit Stand.  Every fall, parents applied name tags to their children, kissed them good-bye and sent them off to school on the bus.  So it was for Fruit Stand.  The teachers thought the boy’s name was odd, but they tried to make the best of it.

“Would you like to play with the blocks, Fruit Stand?” they offered.

And later, “Fruit Stand, how about a snack?”  He accepted hesitantly.  By the end of the day, his name didn’t seem much odder than Heather’s or Sun Ray’s.

At dismissal time, the teachers led the children out to the buses.

“Fruit Stand, do you know which one is your bus?”  He didn’t answer.  That wasn’t strange.  He hadn’t answered them all day.  Lots of children are shy on the first day of school.  It didn’t matter.  The teachers had instructed the parents to write the names of their children’s bus stop on the reverse side of their name tags.  The teacher simply turned over the tag. There, neatly printed, was the word “Anthony.”

We often hear folks say, “There’s nothing in a name!”  But there is very much something in a name.  Our name identifies who we are and where we came from (and sometimes where we’re going).  That’s why Abram’s name was changed to Abraham (“father of a multitude”), and Simon’s to Peter (“the rock”).

As Christians, we are proud to wear the name of the one who is our Lord, our Savior and our head.

“If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified.  But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as a busybody in other people’s matters.  Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this matter.” (1 Peter 4:14-16)

It truly does make a difference what name we wear.  If you don’t believe me, just ask Fruit Stand.

Have a great day!
