Memorial Day is a day when we pause to give thanks to/for the people who fought for the things we have.

Marsha Bankston is heading to Ochsner in New Orleans today for to days of chemo (days 3 and 4).  Pray for her to be strong enough and her body to be ready for these treatments.  Pray for Larry as he faithfully helps her through this.

Mrs. Mary Alice Blackwell is looking forward to her treatments.  She has been released from the hospital and is staying with family close by in Ponchatoula.  Mr. John Alan is sticking close by her side.

Doc and Dora Magee

Hi everybody,

It’s been a while since we’ve had an update on Doc and Dora Magee.  I gave them a call today and found that they are now on the road to recovery, but their computer is sick.  It will be several days before they can communicate via e-mail, so she asked me to send out a brief update to everyone and she will fill in the blanks as soon as possible. So, here goes, with a disclaimer in case I get some of the facts not quite right:

  • ·         DERRY: On Thursday May 17 Derry had a heart procedure called the “Lariat”. This is some sort of procedure to help prevent future strokes, in light of the fact that he is unable to take blood thinners, and was done by the same surgeons who had done previous heart procedures for him at a hospital in Austin.  Nita flew to College Station and took Derry and also remained with him for the 3 days he was hospitalized and then came home with him, too.  The procedure went very well.  (Dora was unable to go … read on.)
  • ·         Shortly after getting home, however, Derry began having excruciating abdominal pain and was taken to the ER there in College Station.  Tests revealed pancreatitis and gallstones in the bile duct.  Laparoscopic surgery was done to remove the stones and he is recuperating well from this procedure.
  • ·         Derry continues to make progress from the effects of his stroke and continues physical and occupational therapy at home.  He no longer needs speech therapy, Dora said.
  • ·         DORA:   Soon after Derry was discharged from the rehab facility, Dora was flat on her back with an injured sacroiliac.  (Don’t ask me what that is! But you can look it up – I just did. OUCH!)  She had severe pain and was unable to do anything but lie flat.  Apparently, she had over-extended herself, maybe lifting too much, whatever.  She is healing from this ordeal and is now able to drive, so things are looking up.

The good news is that they have household help called “Comfort Help”, an agency that provides all kinds of help with personal hygiene, cleaning, laundry, and even cooking, I believe. So, things are better, and hopefully the good progress will continue. She regrets that she has been unable to communicate, but with her being “down”, and now the computer is down (wonder if it had a virus J?), things have been on hold! As Derry, said, “We have been through the wringer!”

 Please continue to keep Dora and Derry in your prayers.  I am sure I am overlooking some, so please forward this to anyone you wish.

Pray for the Hatchels.  In two days, they will begin their trip home to Prague.  Thank God for allowing Boyd to be healthy for the next term overseas.  Pray all goes well with them and their luggage as they travel.  Pray for them as they work hard to prepare the house for the next missionary family’s stay.

Have a great day remembering those who served in the military that we might have the freedoms we enjoy today.

Update on Carol Jean Gill from her sister-in-law, Margaret Creel (Thank God for a faithful caregiver and a patient who really had the desire to get better.)

She is so happy being at home with Fernie Ray and Daisy. She still goes to Hammond for Rehab and numerous doctor’s appointments. Fernie Ray has decided even being a caregiver at home beats that twice daily drive to Baton Rouge. Carol Jean is walking by herself with the aid of a walker near by because her balance is still off. She and Fernie Ray have been back to church and have enjoyed their many visitors. God continues to bless us.

Marsha C. Bankston is home, but looking forward to going to Ochsner again Monday.  Please pray she is strong enough and the blood work doesn’t cause another delay in her chemo.  Continue to pray for her family as they help care for her.

Continue to pray for Mrs. Mary Alice Blackwell as she gets stronger and ready for treatment.  Pray for her family as they support her during this time.

We had the almost two days with the Hatchels here.  We had a great time!  Wednesday will be here before we know it!  I thank God for the sweet times we have had together.  Pray for them as they complete the final tasks in packing and cleaning in preparation for their trip “home”.  Pray they will be rested enough for the long journey.

A resident of Ponchatoula, he died at 3:53 a.m. on Friday, May 25, 2012 at Heritage Healthcare of Hammond. He was born February 13, 1933 in Franklinton and was 79 years of age. He is survived by wife, Elizabeth “Liz” Peterman Lambert, Ponchatoula; 3 daughters, Margaret King and husband, Mike, Franklinton, Carole Lagroue and fiancé, Warren Armstrong, Pine Grove and Judy Lambert, Denham Springs; 1 son, Steve Bailey and wife, Lois, Pride; 1 sister, Bonnie Sue Johnson and husband, Joe, Gonzales; 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death by his wife, Rena Faye Davidson Lambert; son, Randy Bailey; parents, Lawrence and Missouri Lambert; 4 sisters, Myrtle Sumrall, Myrtis Holden, Joyce Sandifer and Frances Hughes; 3 brothers, Prentiss “Red” Lambert, Denman “Slim” Lambert and Bobby “Bull” Lambert; 2 infant grandchildren, Jamie Lynn Meyn and Alice Danielle Ardillo. (March 3, 1932 – May 23, 2012

A resident of Amite, she died on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond. She was born March 3, 1932 in Tylertown, MS and was 80 years of age. She is survived by her 3 daughters, Ann C. Lumpkin and husband, Jason, Bay St. Louis, MS, Brenda Rose Currier, Amite and Josie C. Wascom and husband, John, Amite; 1 son, Roy Vincent Currier, Amite; 6 grandchildren, Christopher Spitale, Daniel Spitale, Ashley Easley Zeringue, Jennifer Easley Deville, Amanda Comale Currier and Aaron Vincent Currier; 4 great-grandchildren, Joseph Christopher Deville, Fabian Kain Deville, Jacob Alexander Zeringue and Karlee Elizabeth Perdue; 2 sisters, Lucille Graves and Maxine Gomez; special friend, Frank Tantillo. Mrs. Mary Alice Blackwell is now in a room on the third floor.  Pray for her as she works to get strong enough/healed enough to begin treatment.  Pray for her family too.

Mrs. Bobbie Magee was hospitalized briefly and had some tests done.  Pray for a diagnosis so treatment can begin.

Mr. Gordon Price was hospitalized for a few days because of an infection, but is now home again.

Pray for Mrs. Mary Miller as she nurses a fractured foot.  Pray for Mr. James as he provides daily care for her.

Mrs. Shirley Frazier seems to be improving some.  Continue to pray her back gets better.

Pray for Mrs. Pam Newman as she has a heart procedure Friday.  May your prayers give her comfort and peace as she is admitted tomorrow.

Continue to pray for Mr. J.D. Smith as he continues to give his blood on a very regular basis.

Pray for Mr. Raymond Anthony as he stays at home and travels for his treatments.  Pray for his primary caregiver, “Miss” Velma.
